Dear Parents,                                                                                                                                                                               October 2009

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey, we do value all of the comments and will use the information when considering future planning and actions.

Key outcomes from the survey:-

94% of parents agreed or strongly agreed that their child /children enjoyed coming to school.

95% agreed that their child / children are encouraged to work to the best of their ability

91% agreed or strongly agreed that they felt welcome in the school

94 % agreed or strongly agreed that their child was making good progress

96% agreed or strongly agreed that school staff were approachable and helpful

Some parents chose to make comments, here are the key comments broken down into broad themes with a response.

Comments from the survey

School Response / answer

Theme: Clubs /after, pre school provision

Comments

·         ‘I don’t know what activities there are to do after school’

·         ‘More after school clubs, a breakfast club’

We do have a variety of clubs including football, netball etc. These are advertised to children within school. Activities run by outside organisations are advertised by leaflet etc. We are also part of a local cluster of schools called BATIC and there are clubs  and activities run at other sites which can be accessed by parents. We will highlight these more actively. Some details can also be found on this website http://www.batic.co.uk/   . We are in discussions about how we can offer more after school clubs. The office can help provide information on pre / after school parent care in the local area.

Theme: Home learning ( Homework). There were several comments on this  including:-

·         Less homework for children’

·         ‘Don’t agree with homework –would rather have information o what they will be covering so I can help at home’

·         ‘Worksheets ( as homework) do very little to stimulate and encourage a love of learning’

We keep home learning under review and recently sent out a letter regarding the curriculum and home learning (still available on our website under the Information and Downloads tab at http://www.southbenfleet.essex.sch.uk  We are working to make home learning more connected to and supportive of class work. We ask that all parents continue to read with  and to help their children with tasks, but also play games etc.

Theme : Languages:

·         ‘More opportunities for learning another language’

Junior age children ( Key Stage 2 ) children will start learning French later this school year

Theme : Premises

·         ‘Better play equipment’

·         ‘Continue to improve/ update classroom facilities and equipment’

We are planning a new play area and continue to buy small play equipment for playground use at lunch and playtimes. We also employ two play leaders at lunchtime in addition to our midday assistants.

‘More frequent opportunities to drop into school and look at work/ displays’

We are considering an additional display / open evening in the summer term.

Other comments received:-    ‘I think South Benfleet is a fantastic school’

‘The school works well with the children and staff ( are) all approachable’

‘I am sure that we made the right choice in choosing this school for our child’
