South Benfleet Primary School has Academy status, the responsible body is the Governing Body.  This is a group of nominated and elected people drawn from local residents, local businesses, parents of pupils and staff members.  

The Governing Body both supports and challenges the school to do the very best for all pupils and ensure that statutory duties and requirements are met.

The Governing Body meets regularly to oversee at a strategic level, crucial areas of school life, these include:-

• Helping to agree and plan for school development and improvement
• Setting school budgets
• The drawing up and implementation of school policies
• Ensuring compliance with DFE Regulations, statutory compliance/financial regulations
• The Performance Management of the Headteacher
• Appointing or reappointing the auditors of the school
• Fulfilling all statutory responsibilities as Directors/Trustees
• Hearing and responding to any complaints
